Basic Maintenance for each Season
All established turf will require some level of maintenance throughout the year whether you have a perfectly manicured or utility lawn.
Spring
Check your lawn regularly for signs of early growth so you can mow as soon as necessary.
Ensure the mower blades are well maintained and kept sharpened.
Give your lawn a spring fertiliser to boost early growth.
Check for any over winter damage such as bare patches which may need seeding and/or top dressing.
Check for moss and thatch which may need to be scarified.
Summer
Keep on top of mowing – depending on the weather you may need to mow 2-3 times per week.
Watering your established lawn is not essential. Most grass will recover naturally from a drought period so conserve this precious resource.
Summer feeding is not essential but can be beneficial.
Enjoy your lawn!
Autumn
Regularly clear any leaves and debris from your lawn as this can caused bare patches.
If brown patches appear this could be an indication of disease.
Stay off the lawn if ground becomes waterlogged. Do not mow.
Apply an autumn fertiliser to ensure lawn over-winters well.
Winter
Winters now can sometimes be mild so mowing may still be necessary (not in wet conditions).
This could be a good time to neaten the edges of your lawn using a half moon edging knife or straight edge spade.
Leave any snowfall to clear naturally.
Have a well-earned rest.
